Due to the Corona Virus Maryland has closed all schools, libraries, county facilities and has banned large gatherings through the end of March. Many schools are providing some remote learning opportunities but some are not at to do so.
For those now faced with unexpectedly needing to homeschool the next few weeks I wanted to share things I do with Bram that might help! I know there are lots of activity lists floating around but for another option here is what we do. We try to mostly do free play with loose parts I have at home, and LOTS of outside time (and will continue that except no more group meetups or playgrounds). But I also utilize complementary curriculum and both can work for working parents as well! I started both almost a year ago when I was working and he was at school.
Exploring Nature With Children is a calendar based weekly plan to get out in nature and explore. Last week was about Ponds this week is about the Vernal Equinox. Its a VERY loose curriculum, which basically provides you with some back story, several activity ideas, a poem, and a book list to go along with each theme for the week. Its $18 for the entire year long guide (222 pages). https://raisinglittleshoots.com/buy-exploring-nature-with-…/
Blossom and Root is our more in depth curriculum (we are using the kindergarten plan now but did use the Early Year Volume 2 when he was in preschool). But they also have something called "book seeds" which are basically short curriculum based on popular books and would be good to last a week or 2 for activities. Today I got: "Over and Under the Pond" and "Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt" to complement the Exploring Nature with Children sections. They have one on the very hungry caterpillar too! https://blossomandroot.com/book-seeds/ to see their options and view samples.Right now they are having a 30% off sale, so the book seeds are $4 or less! Their full curriculum are on sale too! ("sprout30" is the sale code). https://blossomandroot.com/
For math we use www.education.com (SOO much for free! but we got a lifetime unlimited membership on black friday last year) they have an app with games he enjoys and lots of worksheets to learn patterns, cutting, subtraction etc.
